Ceiling Madness
Ok! I finished my ceiling project. I’ve decided to worry about the rest of my dining room details later and am giving myself a week’s rest (I’m a delicate flower). But here’s what I’ve been up to: First, I had to scrape, sand, spackle, and sand this bad boy And now after a priming, painting, and tuckering myself right out

Slow Cookery: Pea Soup
Pea soup reminds me of childhood. My dad would cook up a giant pot for us on rainy days. He’d use a nice smoked ham hock as the base, but I just used the remains of our Christmas ham that I had frozen (thanks for the tip, Sarah!). I’ve been a bit lazy in the grocery shopping department. I thought I had enough split peas, but I didn’t. Sooo..I substituted with a pea/lentil...

4 Steps to Delish
Another good weeknight meal. This would be just as good sans-beef, but Will “needs” his meat. Ingredients: 1 roll of polenta (I like the herb and garlic flavoured kind) 150 g sliced roast beef Tomato sauce (I had half a jar of a grocery store brand and then added in a bunch of things I wanted to use up in my fridge - oh and I put in 4 whole cloves of garlic...

Pumpkin Granola
My friend Boone says I’m obsessed with pumpkin. Even if you’re not, I bet you’d appreciate this granola ;) I made it a while ago, and now I don’t remember the recipe I used. I think it was a riff of this similar recipe here though. Isn’t it pretty? It’s also low-fat. Instead of using oil or butter like a regular granola, I used pumpkin butter. There’s...

Old enough to appreciate now
This is my favorite wall to look at in the the house. So much so, that I kind of worry that I’ve blogged about it before! My grandfather and grandmother made these for me. They both passed on long ago, but I only just recently “rescued” these from my old room at my parents house. I guess I didn’t really appreciate how precious they were back then.

"You are like The Expendables of Christmas...
This is what I told Will on Monday while I “supported” the ladder and watched him take down the Christmas lights from the eaves-troughs of our house.  I’ve got a bit of self-pride over my stupid/corny motivational skills. I however am not The Expendables of Christmas decorations. Or decorations. I kept my Valentine’s hearts on the windows well into the Summer, and now I...

The Passage of Time
Happy New Year!! Yesterday was spent with my parents. My mom was very proud of the quote book she had just purchased. She read to me, quite dramatically, a little pearl of wisdom from it: “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.”   —  Robert Frost This past Christmas/New Years holiday, I did a lot of thinking about life, the passage of time, the Past...
